MS, MFA, LCMHCA LCAS-A
she/her/hers

My name is Katy Murphy, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCAS-A) in North Carolina. I believe you are the expert on whatever it is you’re going through. You know best what you need, even if it feels unclear right now. I will work with you at your pace, wherever you may be at this moment, to help you feel supported, empowered, and at peace as you move toward your goals. With a foundation of trust and mutual respect, we will create a treatment plan that honors who you are, what you value, and where you want to be.

I specialize in working with folks experiencing the impacts of trauma (including developmental and systemic trauma), substance use and addiction, anxiety, overwhelming emotions and mood disorders, and challenges with trust and relationships. I am an LGBTQIA+-identified therapist, and I have a great deal of experience working with other members of this overarching community. My approach to therapy is holistic, trauma-focused, and eclectic–I seek to understand you as an individual (rather than as a collection of symptoms) and collaborate with you to design a therapeutic experience for you and you alone. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Attachment and Polyvagal theories, somatic practices, and EMDR therapy.

I know from personal experience that finding a therapist can be challenging, especially if you have endured invalidation, discrimination, or other mistreatment from healthcare professionals historically or in the past. Regardless of whether we work together, please hear this: your feelings, experiences, beliefs, and identities matter. You deserve to be treated with compassion, understanding, and respect.
